Toy Theater

Posted on January 28, 2009 by - Dana's Work

Toy Theater was a short film project I created during a digital video class I took in 2004.  It was later shown at “50 cent Exit” at the Stones Throw in Eau Claire WI, and then in Spring of 2007, in NOTA (the DVD additional features).

I have been watching a lot of movies this winter, partially due to the extreme cold Minnesota weather we have been having in St Paul, and have been inspired to start working on some new projects.

The Link Between Wall & Wacouta

On the Easel…in progress

Posted on January 25, 2009 by - Dana's Work

A few weeks ago I took a long walk around the Crocus Hill / Cathedral Hill neighborhood before sunrise watching as the sky slowly turned a deep blue and lights began to flicker on in the historic homes.  I’ve been painting this image in my mind since that morning, and I am finally putting it to canvas.  I’m taking photos as I go with this piece to show the changes I make, here is the first stage.

The Sea…in progress

Posted on January 21, 2009 by - Dana's Work

I’ve been thinking about the sea a lot in the last few days and have just started to work on this painting. I have a lot of work to do on this canvas, but here is a peek at the in progress stages.  This is inspired by a day trip I took to Knoydart last fall.  Knoydart is situated between Lochs Nevis and Hourn.

Old Books…revisited

Posted on January 21, 2009 by - Dana's Work, sketchbook

I have been revisiting some of my old sketchbooks, altered books and visual journals.  I have filled several over the years.  I recently started carrying around a new book and have also decided to finish my “Phone Book”, an altered book and sketchbook.  I like the idea of pulling a book off the shelf and having it interactive, yes the phone dial really does spin, and makes a wonderful dialing noise!  Enjoy…

The Link Between Wall & Wacouta acrylic on canvas 2009

I have been working on this painting since the beginning of November, and have been fighting with it since the beginning!  After several changes… and many walks through the alley to look at the crooked buildings of lowertown St Paul… tonight I was just about to fall asleep when I realized what I needed to change!  An hour later I can finally say I am through fighting with this one, and can happily move on to the next and get some sleep!

Winter Carnival- St Paul MN

Posted on January 11, 2009 by - Community Events

I have always known cold and snow, growing up in the Northern Midwest, and enjoy spending time outside only slowing down a little with all of the layers I have to wear!  Which brings me to my point, this month there are even more reasons to get outside and celebrate Winter in St Paul…

The 122nd Saint Paul Winter Carnival runs from January 22 to February 1, 2009.  There will be ice sculptures in Rice Park, a historic tour of Central Library, lit by candles, and a parade on the 31st of January!   AZ Gallery will be hosting an Elementary School art show with a winter theme, click here for details.
