Mailing List

Posted on April 28, 2009 by - Uncategorized

Thank you to everyone who stopped in during the Art Crawl!

I enjoyed meeting so many new people, some from the neighborhood and some who had traveled from far away and just happened to be in St Paul during the crawl.  I hope your feet are recovering from all of the stairs in the old buildings of lowertown, and I’m sure your brains are full from viewing so many studios and Art!  The next Art Crawl will be in October.

I drew a name from the sign up for my mailing list, and “Don” from Minneapolis was the winner for “La Belle Crepe” Painting.  It will go out in the mail at the end of the week.  Maybe I’ll make this a more regular event, drawing out a name from the mailing list for a small art work.

White Space

large-white-canvas

Tonight I’m putting layer # 3 of primer on this large canvas.  Not too exciting to look at yet, but an important part of the process.  Monday I put together the bars, cut the canvas and then stretched it, pounding in probably a hundred little brass tacks around the edge, while balancing the canvas and holding it as tight as possible.  Layer #1 of gesso went on Monday, layer # 2 Tuesday.  It is time consuming but a relaxing process, and all the while I’ve been “painting” this one in my mind, can’t wait to start!

Tuesday Night Blues…

Blue Paint

photo:   tubes of paint in the studio

Phthalo Blue, Prussian Blue, Ultramarine Blue… I seem to go through blue paint more than any other color.  A few years ago a fellow painter asked me what color blue I use in my night paintings, and I had to laugh because I have at least 7 different blues in my paint box. Thanks to local independently owned Wet Paint Art Supplies (& the knowledgeable staff!) I have fresh supply of blues to test out tonight.

If you are in Lowertown check out the Wet Paint Staff Show , it is going on through April over at the Black Dog Cafe & Wine Bar

Sunday Drive

Went out for a Sunday Drive with friends today.  We traveled down along the river for a visit to Husom & Rose Photographics Studio, lunch at Norton’s Restaurant (where we sampled a beer made with beets from Futhermore!) & a stop into the Red Wing Depot where the Red Wing Arts Association gallery is located.
