Late Night in the Studio

photo from outside the studio

I’ve been spending the evening putting finishing touches on paintings, wires on the backs of others and varnishing the finished pieces.  I also decided tonight that the small painting I’ll give away on Sunday Night is the 5 x 7″ study of La Belle Crepe that I painted on March 1st.  It is acrylic on Maple Art Board.  So if you are on my mailing list & I draw your name,  you may be become the owner of this petite painting Sunday Evening, I’ll be contacting the winner by email.

On the Lake

Dana Sliding on Lake Superior Photograph c.2009 jbasil

Back to work!  Tonight I’m working on an ice painting.  I spent the weekend on the lake as you can see in the photo.  When the conditions are right on the surface of Chequamegon Bay, you can skate on the surface.  When I was about 9 years old a friend and I skated across from her shoreline house in the country to the city of Washburn, it must have taken us all afternoon but there is something about open space to intrigue the imagination, much like the blank canvas I am about to tackle.

Studio Desk with MIA Arts Magazine featuring Nancy Robinson, Press Pot of Love Buzz Coffee, tags to paint

It is Friday, the sun is out and I have the window open wide this afternoon!  It feels like spring.  I’m looking forward to being able to set up the easel outdoors soon.  I haven’t been setting up in the snow, although I know there are some dedicated painters who paint outdoors year round!  This weekend I plan to work on a few more of my finders keepers tags, and other art crawl preparations.  More images will be posted soon.

Sick Day…

What to do on a sick day?  It is not like it was when I was little, I almost remember sick days being fun!  I’m catching up on some emails and organizing some of my computer files.  Pretty boring compared to watching old movies from the library with my mom when I was a kid!

Blank Board ready to paint!
